Ball Sports

From team sports to individual sports, campers learn new techniques to improve their skills thanks to camp staff. The goal is always to make sure everyone is having fun and campers are challenging themselves everyday. From camp tournaments to inter-camp leagues, campers have the opportunity to showcase their teamwork, spirit, and sportsmanship; each helping them develop as individuals.
If selected to coach at a specialist sports camp, you will be responsible for the structured development of campers ability.  If working at a more general camp location, campers may be of varying ability and experience.

Basketball

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;


As Basketball Coach, you are responsible for the safe and fun delivery of Basketball classes to campers.


Basketball is a massive part of American culture and a popular activity choice at camp. Being able to conduct varied and exciting sessions whilst having control over a group of excited campers will be key. 

Your role will include the teaching of;

The completion of a camp-recognised first aid qualification may also be required.

Golf

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

 

As Golf Instructor, you will be spending your Summer helping campers to improve their golf game. From 1-on-1 to group classes, you are responsible for delivering safe and exciting sessions to campers.

 

In this role, it is key that you are passionate, responsible and patient; willing to take the time to improve a campers ability. 

Your role will include the teaching of;

Soccer (Football)

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

 

As Soccer Coach, you will be spending your Summer helping campers to improve their soccer skills. Good communication and a passion for the beautiful game is key.

 

A soccer coaching position at any camp is a fantastic way to spend your summer and a great alternative to a football coaching apprenticeship. It is the perfect job for anybody looking for a career in football coaching.

 

Soccer is gaining more and more popularity in the States, with girls and boys alike looking to get more involved. 

Your role will include the teaching of;

Tournaments will be held regularly, be prepared for lots of excited campers and healthy competition!

Tennis

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

 

As Tennis Coach, you will spend your summer teaching the sport you love, helping campers to improve their tennis skills. 

 

Dependant on which camp, facilities range from 1 or 2 courts to being solely dedicated to the development of a campers Tennis ability.

Your role will include the teaching of;

To be considered as a Tennis coach, you must be flexible and adaptable to different ages and skill levels within a session and be confident in leading lessons by yourself.

 

Tennis is a popular activity choice at camp, campers safety is your main priority along with ensuring each session is fun and engaging.

Field Hockey

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

 

As a Field Hockey Coach, you will be spending your Summer helping campers to improve their hockey skills.

 

Hockey is a popular American team sport. You may be required to wear roller skates whilst teaching, so being safe on a pair of skates would be a good addition to your hockey knowledge.

Your role will include the teaching of;

Tournaments will be held regularly, be prepared for lots of excited campers and healthy competition!

Other in-demand skills – Baseball, Lacrosse, Softball, Volleyball, American Football

Basketball

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

  • Playing/Played basketball at University level and above (BUCs League)
  • Sports & Exercise degree (or similar)
  • Coaching experience 
  • Lesson planning

  • Training Drills
  • Positions (Offence & Defence), the difference between ‘man-to-man’ and ‘zone’ defence

  • Passing, Lay-Ups, Shooting, Scoring
  • Rules & Regulations
  • How to referee a game

The completion of a camp-recognised first aid qualification may also be required.

Golf

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

  • PGA Golf Instructor Level 1 or above
  • Single figure handicap

As Golf Instructor, you will be spending your Summer helping campers to improve their golf game. From 1-on-1 to group classes, you are responsible for delivering safe and exciting sessions to campers. 

In this role, it is key that you are passionate, responsible and patient; willing to take the time to improve a campers ability. 

Your role will include the teaching of;

  • what is ‘handicapping’ & what is considered a basic/very good/expert handicap
  • the proper choice & use of clubs, dependant on distance to hole
  • proper stance, how to grip, swing, drive
  • putting and scoring
  • what competition/tournament play involves

Soccer (Football)

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

  • FA (football association) Level 2
  • Sports Coaching Level 2 award

  • Ball skills, Dribbling, Passing, Shooting, Tackling
  • Corners, Free Kicks, Headers, Penalties
  • Training drills
  • Goalkeeping & Defence
  • Rules & regulations, including the ‘offside’ rule

Tournaments will be held regularly, be prepared for lots of excited campers and healthy competition!

Tennis

Preferred Experience/Qualifications;

  • Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) coaching qualification Level 2 or above
  • Players with strong experience and skill 

As Tennis Coach, you will spend your summer teaching the sport you love, helping campers to improve their tennis skills. 

Dependant on which camp, facilities range from 1 or 2 courts to being solely dedicated to the development of a campers Tennis ability.

Your role will include the teaching of;

  • Warm-ups & Cool downs
  • Correct starting position, the layout of the court, holding your racquet, footwork
  • How to return the ball (backhand, forehand, smash, volley etc)
  • Playing singles & doubles
  • Serving
  • Training drills
  • Rules & regulations, umpiring

  • Played at high school level or above
  • Partaken in a hockey coaching course

As a Field Hockey Coach, you will be spending your Summer helping campers to improve their hockey skills.

Your role will include the teaching of;

  • Warm-ups & Cool downs
  • Team size & different positions
  • Hitting the ball, passing, dribbling, attacking
  • Tackling/pushing
  • safely stopping on your skates
  • Taking penalties
  • Different positions
  • Training drills
  • Goalkeeping & Defence
  • Rules & regulations
